Hanna Gabriel's has been representing Costa Rica on a professional level for seventeen years of her life. That in and of itself is incredible considering that Hanna is only 27 years old.
Her athletic career began at the age of six years old when she was introduced to the world of track and field. At the age of eighteen she was forced to retire her olympic dreams due to physical injury compounded by the financial strain placed upon her parents Yolanda Valle and Leslie Gabriel.
These parents supported a family of seven on a limited budget due to the lack of support that the Costa Rican government provides it's athletes outside of its traditional past time of soccer. Even more so strained because Hanna was not the only outstanding athlete; sister Dorlie Gabriel was also a select track and field star and brother Windell Gabriel to this day is a professional soccer player. In the end, the hardships lead to a divorce and Hanna choosing a new path towards the U.S.A in order to help save their house which was up for foreclosure.
During that time Hanna became an award winning hair stylist specializing in braids. Towards the end of her time in the U.S.A she turned down the opportunity to style R&B singer Mary J. Blige in order to return to Costa Rica where she felt she needed to be in order to assist in the up-bringing of her younger siblings.
Pushing the 200 lb. mark her father, Leslie Gabriel was overjoyed his daughter was back in Costa Rica but encouraged her to meet him at the boxing gym to lose weight in order to avoid health complications.
Hanna walked into the gym and fell in love with the sound of competition all over again. Eventually deciding to leave work and dedicate her time to training because down deep all she could imagine for herself was her arm being held up in the air and hearing...
